| not knowing gavin newsom...
we celebrated our one year IPO anniversary today with a huge hawaiian party in justin herman plaza. one of the featured speakers was gavin newsom, mayor of san francisco. having arrived late, i had to sit on the curb near the water fountain. as i’m eating and chatting with my coworkers, gavin newsom and his entourage walk up to the plaza where we are sitting. a dutiful security guard (from our event) blocks newsom and his group from entering (like had his arms stretched way out). this poor bloke did not recognize the mayor!!! newsom’s associates exclaimed, “mayor newsom was invited to this event!!!” the ever dutiful security guard shakes his head and denies them entry.
the small group of us sitting near the fountain all froze watching this unfold. my buddy mutters, "oh, shit, this is gonna be fun." some nearby salesforce employees start saying, “yeah, he’s the mayor... let him in!!!” it starts to crescendo into a small group of us exclaiming, “he’s the mayor, he’s the mayor, he’s mayor!!!” the poor bloke looked frazzled. he radios in and another security guard jogs over, recognizes the mayor, and let’s him in. hahahaha... i felt sorry for him but come on, how don’t you know your own mayor?!

19 years of age, asian youth player of the year, called up for the national squad, scored two goals in two games with the senior squad, and the chosen one to lead Korea in the upcoming world cup germany in 2006!!!
He's also Christian and his goal ceremony involves falling to his knees and praising the Lord!!!

| (ah, summer is approaching and it’s time for another one of my dumb-ass theories...)
korean american women have it tough in the “korean” dating universe... for the longest time, i couldn’t figure out why there were so MANY QUALITY single korean american women in their 30s (especially down in la). was it merely the “sex and the city” phenomenon that engendered a legion of career-minded women who scoffed at the social stigma of singledom? perhaps. was it a dearth of quality korean american blokes? perhaps (getting warmer anyway). or was it that they intentionally or unintentionally refused to consider playing in the FOB playground thereby excluding themselves from a giant slice of the korean dating pie?! what?! huh?! where the heck am i going with this you say?!

you see, korean american women (KAW) simply won’t date a FOBBY korean man (FKM). to them, this is the bizarro world where EVERYTHING looks, feels, smells, sounds, and tastes backwards. ever watch the superman cartoon when you were a kid? remember when superman enters the bizarro world? right vs wrong was simply upside down in the bizarro universe and superman simply couldn’t get his MOJO on in that world. this is how it is for a KAW with a FKM.
in contrast, a korean american men (KAM) see fobby korean women (FKW) as a hotties, gals with traditional values, and good homemakers (of course, they see the same things in a KAW and more). FKW will date both KMA and FKAs!!! and, FKM will date FKW and KAW if only KAW would give them the time of day... CONCLUSION: korean american women simply decide to play in a smaller universe... it’s like not eating the crust on a slice of pizza... do i blame them for doing this? not really. i’ve met some real bastards over there... but there ARE some quality blokes... it’s just harder for a fobby guy to come over to the states and provide for his family (language, work, etc) where as it’s SOCIALLY easier for a fobby gal to come over as the korean american bloke will normally PROVIDE of her. social bias? yes.

some thoughts on the mtv movie awards...
a. napoleon dynamite!!! didn’t fancy the film myself, but that dance scene at the end was da bomb!!! urrrhhh, idiot!!!
b. jimmy fallon gets a B- for his performance as emcee
c. lindsay lohan’s win as best actress and her acceptance speech reaffirms my belief trailer trash HAS invaded hollywood
d. kick-ass stage and setting!!! A+
e. tom cruise and katie holmes: OMG, this has got to be a publicity stunt! was she even born when risky business was released? she was looking hot in that outfit tho. tom <wink wink>... u da man!!!
f. jessica simpson: dude, all that eye shadow made her look like a raccoon!!! but if she puts on those daisy duke shorts, all will be forgiven
g. dustin hoffman touching himself was hilarious!!! think jacko was offended?
h. breakfast club tribute was cool!!! but i doubt many of the teens in the audience actually saw the movie. too bad the other cast members couldn’t attend. also, did much care for the rendition of “don’t you forget about me”... they really F’d up a classic song!!!

j. best kiss: dude, rachel mcadams IS a hottie!!! ryan gosling is one lucky bastard!!!
